Why I Co-Founded a Billing Company for Dietitians

For dietitians who'd rather hand off insurance billing than learn it. Credentialing gets you in network. Billing is where you actually get paid. GoodBilling does it for you.

Rather learn to bill it yourself? Start with coaching.

Two doors

Learn it or hand it off: which one are you?

Real talk: I teach dietitians how to bill insurance themselves. I also co-founded a company that does it for them. That's not a contradiction. It's two DIFFERENT doors, and you get to pick yours.

Learn it

Learn to do it yourself with me if:

  • You want to understand every dollar that comes in and exactly why
  • You're just starting out and keeping overhead low
  • You plan to hire and train your own biller someday and want to know what good looks like
  • You're a control freak (affectionately. Same.)

MANY dietitians learn the ropes first and hand off to GoodBilling once the caseload grows. Either way, you get paid.

My story

I've spent my whole career getting dietitians paid

Hi, I'm Amy Plano, The Reimbursement Dietitian. I've been successfully billing insurance since 2008. I run an insurance-based private practice, and I coach dietitians who want to stop leaving money on the table and start billing insurance like the healthcare providers they are.

I also run a done-for-you credentialing agency. Which means I've had a front-row seat to the part nobody posts about on Instagram: what happens after you're in network.

The part nobody talks about

The dirty little secret of insurance-based practice

Here's the thing. Getting credentialed is the hard part everyone talks about. But billing is where practices quietly lose money.

Denied claims nobody follows up on. Eligibility checks that take forever. Patients who get surprise bills and never come back. Billers who charge a fat percentage and still can't explain why Aetna is ghosting you. Generic medical billing software that has no idea what 97802 even is.

I watched talented dietitians do everything right, get in network, fill their schedules, and still feel broke. That's not a YOU problem. That's a billing problem. And I got tired of telling people to "find a good biller" when good billers for RDs are basically unicorns. The ones that currently exist are NOT awesome.

Truth be told, in the beginning of my practice, I had a biller, and they sucked. Then I hired another biller. And guess what? They sucked too. Then I painstakingly taught myself how to do it. And have continued to teach THOUSANDS of dietitians and CNSs how to bill the sh*t out of insurance for the last decade.

But here's the thing. Many of you don't want to learn how to bill insurance.

And if I am being honest, THIS took me a long time to come to terms with. I resisted starting a billing company for dietitians for 5 years.

Why? Because I didn't want to handicap dietitians by doing it for them. And I wanted them to keep all the money they made.

Essentially, I wanted to teach dietitians how to fish, not fish for them.

However, what I want for dietitians is very different than what dietitians want for themselves. So, in 2025 (somewhat begrudgingly), I launched GoodBilling, a billing company for dietitians. And I could not be happier with how things are going.

Co-founder

So I helped build GoodBilling

GoodBilling is AI-powered billing built for nutrition practices. I'm a co-founder, and my job is making sure it's built by people who actually understand medical nutrition therapy billing, not tech bros guessing at it. I bring two decades of MNT reimbursement experience, payer know-how, and a whole lot of opinions to the product.

And yes, my own team uses it. I don't recommend anything I wouldn't put my own practice on.

Good questions

GoodBilling FAQs

What is GoodBilling?

GoodBilling is an AI-powered billing company for dietitians who want to hand off their insurance billing. It handles eligibility checks, claim submission, denial follow-up, and patient payments so dietitians can focus on care.

What is Amy Plano's role at GoodBilling?

Amy is a co-founder of GoodBilling. She brings experience as THE reimbursement expert for dietitians, an insurance-based practice owner, and The Reimbursement Dietitian to ensure the product fits how dietitians actually bill.

Do I need to be credentialed before using GoodBilling?

To bill insurance in network, you need to be credentialed with each payer first. If you're not there yet, start with The Reimbursement Dietitian's credentialing support, then bring GoodBilling in once you're seeing insured patients.

How is GoodBilling different from hiring a biller?

A biller is one person working through claims by hand. GoodBilling automates eligibility, claims, and denial tracking, so claims go out faster and fewer fall through the cracks. Visit goodbilling.ai to see how it works and what it costs.

Should I outsource my billing or learn to do it myself?

Both work. If you want billing off your plate, GoodBilling does it for you. If you want to understand and run your own billing, The Reimbursement Dietitian teaches dietitians how through The Reimbursement Academy and coaching. Many dietitians learn first, then outsource as they grow.
